5  Panels & Layout

Panels are NeoWeatherwall’s core organizing idea: up to four independent map views, each with its own radar product, tilt, and overlays. This lets you compare products side by side, which is the heart of good radar analysis.

5.1 Panel modes

Choose your layout under Settings > Display > Panel Mode:

  • Single: one full map.
  • Two: side-by-side comparison.
  • Three: three-up.
  • Four: a 2×2 grid.

5.2 What’s independent per panel

Each panel keeps its own:

  • Radar product and elevation tilt
  • Display mode and threshold
  • Overlay toggles (warnings, spotters, surface, etc.)
  • Smoothing, range outline, and beam-blockage toggles

This is what makes multi-panel powerful: put Reflectivity in one, Velocity or Azimuthal Shear in another, and Correlation Coefficient in a third to hunt for a debris signature, all of the same storm at the same moment.

5.3 Linked navigation

Each panel has a Panel Linked toggle. When panels are linked, panning and zooming one moves the others in lockstep, so they always frame the same area. Unlink a panel to move it independently, for example one panel zoomed out for context and another zoomed in on a couplet.

TipA classic four-panel

A widely used severe-weather layout:

  1. Reflectivity (0.5°): storm structure and hook
  2. Velocity or SRV (0.5°): rotation
  3. Correlation Coefficient: debris ball / TDS
  4. Azimuthal Shear: auto-highlighted rotation

Link all four so they track the same storm as it moves.

5.4 Tips

  • Keep at least one panel linked to your primary storm so the others follow.
  • On iPhone, fewer panels means each is larger and easier to read. Two is often the best choice on a phone, and Four works well on iPad and Mac.
  • Overlays multiply across panels; turn off layers you don’t need in a given panel to reduce clutter and keep rendering smooth.
